Wall Street Journal: Mitsubishi Suspends Australian Iron Ore Project

  • $5.9bn Oakajee Port and Rail iron ore project in Western Australia state has been suspended
  • Downturn in commodity prices cited
  • Project had already been ‘scaled back’ in November
  • The related Jack Hills mine to be placed in care and maintenance

  • In new legislation (enacted May 23rd) the French government has forbidden sending all forms of currency – coins,cash, and all forms of precious metals (coins, bars, and jewellery) by mail

UK’s Cameron to ask G8 to support crack down on aggressive tax avoidance

Ahead of the G8 meeting PM Cameron will today  press Britain’s overseas tax havens to sign up to an international transparency treaty.  Bermuda has already agreed  and the other countries are the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Gibralter,Anguilla, Montserrat, Turks & Calcois Island, and of course those closer to home Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

He will then ask G8  leaders, including Barack Obama and Angela Merkel, to sign up to a new set of core principles on tax on the second and final day of the summit, which opens in Northern Ireland on Monday.

He reveals all in an interview with The Guardian today

BOJ to increase its purchases of J-Reits

According to the Nikkei business daily earlier today

Without citing sources they said that the BOJ is now expected to continue purchasing J-REITs ( Japanese Real Investment Trusts ) so that the balance of the central bank’s holding at the end of the year will likely exceed the latest 140 billion yen estimate by up to 10 billion yen.
