Pound looking perky before Merv moves on

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 11:42 PM PDT

With the market largely backing an unchanged position from the BOE at 11.00 gmt we’re seeing some decent GBP buying to start the day.

GBPUSD up at 1.5430, EURGBP back below 0.8500, GBPJPY above 153.00 and GBPAUD the runaway winner so far if only by soggy aussie default at 1.6320 just off its 1.6339 highs.

Mervyn King bows out today and is widely expected to oversee the 12th unchanged decision in a row  on rates and QE before moving on and leaving the job to Mark Carney.

Reasons to be cheerful on the UK economy

And I bet you never thought I’d be writing a headline like that anytime soon eh?

But in the interests of fair play we like to always bring a balanced view here at ForexLive and this piece from the City AM editor is sure to warm the hearts of all you UK bulls out there.

Mind you, even he has reservations too.
