Good morning

Quite a bit of re-writing on the cable levels and my sterling charts are all blown out wide. Pain in the bum is what it is. :-)

BOJ’s Kuroda:Will take appropriate action if tail risk threatens BOJ price target

Posted: 08 Aug 2013 12:34 AM PDT

Presser detail now being released after usual embargo

  • premature to discuss exit strategy for Japan
  • vital for govt to achieve fiscal consolidation
  • BOJ forecasts include effects of planned sales tax hike
  • Japan can recover even if exports don’t rise sharply
  • sees risks linked to overseas economy falling slightly
  • US economy is strong and there are signs of improvement in Europe
  • core CPI  +0.4% in line with BOJ forecast
  • possible to raise sales tax and still escape deflation
  • even after sales tax hike Japan can expand sbove its potential growth rate
  • important in next fiscal year to reduce budget deficit
  • Chinese growth slowing but will stablize due to domestic demand
  • BOJ board members wanted to see more hard data showing improvement in Capex

The usual from Kuroda but USDJPY higher at 96.40

BOE’s Carney: Doesn’t want to make “Japan style” mistakes on UK recovery

Posted: 08 Aug 2013 12:28 AM PDT

Speaking on BBC radio’s Today show

  • UK in early stages of recovery from very weak position
  • 2% inflation remains primary target
  • not binding successors to current decisions
  • unlikely MPC will change views outside “knockouts”
  • early stages of recovery does not appear credit driven
  • finds it striking that no women on MPC ( a back foot defence against his original stance not wanting women on uk bank notes which caused great protest )

GBP lower at 1.5490 fr0m 1.5519.

I stand by my view that yesterday changed little. And yes I’m now short at 1.5490 and 1.5512

Let’s see what happens in the clear light of day
